Background

Founded in 1988, Davies & Partners Solicitors has built a national reputation across real estate, planning, construction, property litigation and clinical negligence. With additional strength in corporate, commercial and dispute resolution services, the firm has grown steadily for more than three decades. 

But like many long-established legal firms, technology hadn’t always kept pace with how the business was evolving – especially as hybrid working, security risk and efficiency pressures increased.

We spoke to Tom Lowe, Director at Davies & Partners, about their eight year long journey with CloudClevr – from legacy telephony to a fully modern, cloud-first, secure environment

A relationship that grew with the business

The relationship began more than eight years ago, originally through Bamboo Technologies for communications solutions. The first step was replacing a dated BT copper-wire phone system with VoIP. From there, the relationship expanded naturally as the firm’s needs became more complex.

What started as limited third-line support evolved into full first, second and third-line IT support, alongside strategic guidance, infrastructure modernisation and security improvements.

“It’s been a long-term, stable partnership, and not by accident. We’ve expanded our relationship with CloudClevr across multiple services because they understand our business, anticipate where we need to go, and deliver consistently,” says Tom. 

From on-prem to cloud – a major shift

One of the biggest transformations CloudClevr guided was moving Davies & Partners from an outdated, server-based environment to a fully cloud-based Azure AD setup.

This wasn’t just a technical upgrade – it unlocked a wave of modernisation projects that followed. 

Using CloudClevr’s IT Roadmap, the firm gained visibility into what had quietly aged over time, from endpoints and servers to networking and telephony, and gained a clear, prioritised plan to address it. 

Support that actually supports the business 

For Davies & Partners, IT efficiency directly impacts staff productivity and client experience. CloudClevr’s role is to remove friction, resolve issues fast and prevent problems before they surface. 

“IT is the biggest efficiency we can make when it’s running right. And frankly, we don’t hear complaints from our employees about IT anymore.”

A revolutionary shift in communications – Replacing Avaya with Zoom

One of the most transformative projects CloudClevr has undertaken for the firm has been replacing its legacy Avaya system with Zoom.

Post-COVID hybrid working exposed the limitations of the old system. Remote access required specific licences. VPN usage created security concerns. The system was clunky and inflexible.

It simply wasn’t built for modern working.

Guided by CloudClevr, Davies & Partners evaluated multiple options and selected Zoom as a future-proof solution.

The new Zoom project is underway, and from the trial run itself, the firm can see its potential – supporting hybrid and fully remote users, including staff working internationally, and introducing AI capabilities that directly improve client experience.

“This project is a revolutionary step change from where we were. We’ve got fluctuating call volumes. The AI assistant gives us a way to manage that properly without dropping calls or frustrating clients.”

“The AI features of Zoom stood out compared to its alternatives. Transcription, voicemail summaries, and especially the AI receptionist – these will provide real efficiency gains for us and will transform how we work.”

Security that’s proactive – and invisible

As a legal firm handling sensitive personal data and large financial transactions, Davies & Partners is a consistent target for cybercrime. 

CloudClevr implemented Huntress EDR and ITDR, alongside ongoing security awareness training, shifting the firm from reactive defence to proactive protection. 

“In the nicest way, we don’t see it, which is the best kind of IT solution. It’s a silent partner. We’re more secure, more proactive, and more confident, and that reassurance is hugely valuable.” 

Security also shows up in quieter decisions. Like identifying five-year-old laptops that had become potential vulnerabilities. 

“Apart from the productivity efficiency, it’s those invisible security measures, the ones people don’t always highlight, that are absolutely crucial.” 

Invisible controls, automated training and continuous monitoring now form a strong security baseline that supports regulatory and operational needs.
